Kansas
8-Man All Star Football Game
- In 1985, the 8-Man Coaches Association created the Kansas 8-Man
All Star Football Game. The following year, area students participated
in the first game at Trojan Stadium in Beloit, Kansas. Players are
selected by the 8-Man Coaches Committee each December. There was a
request for two divisions, so starting June 2001 one game is being
played in the morning and another division play in the afternoon.
A successful annual event, the game relies on the support of the
community as well as resources from the North Central Kansas Technical
College, Beloit Jr. Sr. High School, and the Knights of Columbus.
The event attracts many people from surrounding regions, nourishing
area businesses.

Relays
- The Beloit High School has been hosting the Beloit Relays since
1941. With as many as 52 schools attending in the 1960's to the 28-35
schools that have attended recently, this is the largest one-day track
meet in the State of Kansas. Outstanding competition in large school
and small school divisions can always be expected. Many of the
athletes who compete in the Beloit Relays go on to be state champions
or compete very well at the state level. Call (785) 738-3261 for more

Chautauqua
Isle of Lights
- Christmas in Beloit took on a new dimension in 1999 when the Isle of
Lights was established in Chautauqua Park. The Isle of Lights
Committee took advantage of the horseshoe-shaped park. With the
roadway circling the park and lined with small white lights, vehicle
occupants are able to view the Spirit of Christmas lighted displays.
Categories for the seventy-plus displays range from Religious to
Winter Wonderland, Patriotism, and Toyland. Huge Christmas cards are
the work of students, 4-H Clubs, and Scouts. Some of the displays are
humorous while others are thought-provoking.
The spectacular displays are aglow every night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.,
beginning the day after Thanksgiving and continuing through New Year's
Eve. Hosts are present nightly to regulate traffic and to hand out
programs. There are no charges, but a donation box is available. Over
18,000 people view the displays during the holidays. They come from
168 Kansas towns, 40 states, and 11 foreign countries.
