Beloit, a community of over 4,000 residents and the county
seat of Mitchell County (MC), Kansas, is located in North Central
Kansas. Situated in the heart of the Solomon Valley, at the Junction of
US Hwy #24 and Kansas Hwy #14 & #9, Beloit is located 27 miles west of
US Hwy/Expressway #81 and 44 miles north of US Interstate #70. Due to
its location and easy access, Beloit is considered to be the Queen of
the Solomon Valley and has established itself as a "retail" hub.
Approximately 170 businesses provide an abundance of goods and services
to residents throughout the area and region.
The Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce was originally incorporated
under the Laws of the State of Kansas in April, 1902, and Chartered
under the name of the "Beloit Commercial Club", with "Area" being
incorporated into the name in more recent years. The original "Charter"
stated "that the purpose for which this corporation is formed are to
promote the business interests of the City of Beloit, induce
manufacturers and other industries to locate in said City and to invite
immigration to said City and to Mitchell County, Kansas, and hold and
convey such real estate as may be necessary in the transaction of its
said business".
Although today's Chamber Board of Directors consists of nine
members instead of seven, the Chamber's basic purpose remains the same
as it did almost one hundred years ago. In recent years, the Beloit
Industrial Corporation (BID) adopted the slogan "Vision with Values" for
the community which also adds additional foresight to the Chamber's
existence. Today's Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce continues to play a
vital and active role in the area's overall development by providing
assistance to corporations and individuals seeking information necessary
for them to make intelligent business decisions. Some of the areas in
which the Chamber can assist in providing reliable and confidential
information includes; site selections, appointments with land
owners/building owners, a Beloit video, community profile, demographics
and community information.
Numerous brochures about the community are available at the
Chamber office. For the traveler, there are many brochures about other
communities throughout the state including a Kansas Travel and Event
Guide. Group tours to our area are coordinated by the Chamber staff and
a step on guide provided for bus tours. Community information and a
Calendar of Events are updated regularly. Hunting and fishing
information, including lodging and fishing tournaments at Waconda Lake
are sought by many sport enthusiasts.
The Chamber directly sponsors, and on occasion endorses, various
projects and events including seasonal and special functions and
activities throughout the year, along with promoting numerous community
and area activities and events. |
